Riu Palace St. Martin Wedding | Katie & Dave

In April, we got to spend 4 days at the Riu Palace in St. Martin with this beautiful couple, and about 100 of their friends and family…What a turn out for a destination wedding!

We have known Dave for over 10 years now, which is hard to believe. Mike met Dave at the beginning of his career, with the start of his business Digital Surgeons. Over the years we have worked with him and his business partner Pete, and have always kept in touch, whether it was doing work for them or grabbing drinks here and there. When Dave got engaged to his stunning girlfriend Katie, they reached out to us for engagement photos (including his daughter Brooklyn) which soon after lead to them booking us for their wedding at the Riu Palace in St Martin. WOOHOO

Katie and Dave, and several of their friends and family arrived at the resort before us. In that time, Dave made close friends with the iguanas who hung out poolside, as well as manage to jump out of a kayak by a treacherous reef surrounded by tons of sea urchins. Long story short, 100’s of sea urchin needles were injected to his foot and hand. He spent a day in the hospital and used a wheel chair when possible to relieve the pain. Luckily this was 2 days before the wedding and not the day of! I think he may still be pulling needles out a month later?!

The wedding day was gorgeous, but a hot one! Katie was dolled up by her sister-in-law Whitney in the resort’s spa, while Dave and the guys got ready in their suite, entertained (from what I can see) by the kids. Dave opened a very thoughtful gift from Katie, a pocket square that someone stitched his mother’s exact handwriting into. An emotional moment for Dave, as his mother had passed. He also got some special chiropractic treatment by his brother (and best man) Paul. Once everyone was dressed and ready, we headed out by the water to set up their first look.

As much as we wanted to get all the formals done right after their first look, we suggested to wait until after the ceremony when the sun wasn’t so hot and bright. We knocked out most family photos then got ready for the ceremony. Katie’s brothers played the music while everyone came down the aisle. The sun was finally starting to set and it was picture perfect. Katie and Dave’s vows were beautiful and emotional. And the formal pictures of Katie & Dave after the ceremony during sunset were breathtaking.

Katie spent a lot of time planning the little details for the wedding. You will see the large list of vendors below. She loves to help small businesses so she did a lot of her wedding shopping on etsy. After the entrances and dances we all ate poolside and got right into dancing. Everyone was having a blast! Even when the downpours came (like the “November Rain” video, basically), most of the guests danced right through it soaking wet. It made for some great pics!
